„Dlaczego podskakuję” to zbiór esejów żyjącego z autyzmem i niemego Japończyka Naoki Higashidy. Napisał je w wieku 13 lat, chcąc wyjaśnić swoje zachowania i przybliżyć ludziom świat autystów. Opowiadał o doświadczeniu inności, niezdolności do komunikowania się werbalnie, uczuciach, obawach oraz odpowiedział na pytanie, dlaczego często podskakuje. Książka została przetłumaczona na angielski przez pisarza Davida Mitchella, który sam ma syna z autyzmem, i od razu stała się światowym bestsellerem. Od tego czasu przełożono ją na ponad 30 języków. Oparty na niej film łączy przemyślenia Higashidy z portretami pięciu innych żyjących z autyzmem młodych ludzi.
