Ekipa filmu „Potop” spędziła na planie 535 dni. W filmie wzięło udział 70 aktorów w rolach pierwszoplanowych, 450 aktorów w rolach drugoplanowych i epizodycznych oraz kilka tysięcy statystów – bywały sceny, które kręcono z udziałem 4 tys. osób. W zdjęciach wzięło udział ponad 700 koni. Specjalnie dla wykonawców przygotowano około 5 tys. kostiumów damskich i męskich, uszytych według mody z XVII wieku. Przygotowano 45 tys. rekwizytów militarnych (głównie szable i pałasze, ale również 1,5 tys. muszkietów). Odlano kilkadziesiąt sztuk artylerii, w tym 30 armat oraz dwie kolubryny, główna kolubryna ważyła 1600 kg, mierzyła 10 m.

 

W 2010 roku w ramach projektu Repozytorium Cyfrowe Filmoteki Narodowej, dzięki finansowemu wsparciu PISF-u oraz MKiDN, przy współudziale TVN S.A, dokonano digitalizacji obu części filmu „Potop” (1974) Jerzego Hoffmana. Trwający 5 godzin i 15 minut (cz. 1 – 169 min, cz. 2. – 146 min) film poddany został pełnej konserwacji. Pełną rekonstrukcję cyfrową wykonały: budapeszteńskie Magyar Filmlabor oraz warszawskie Studio Produkcyjne ORKA. Film został na nowo zmontowany pod nadzorem artystycznym Jerzego Hoffmana i Jerzego Wójcika. Pod opieką reżysera powstała wersja filmu o zdynamizowanej narracji. Montażu dokonał ceniony montażysta Marcin Kot Bastkowski.

By the end of the twentieth century, in an opinion poll by the weekly ‘Polityka’ magazine, ‘The Deluge’ was recognized as one of the five most important Polish films. It was noticed also by Hollywood, as ‘The Deluge’ received the Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Forty years ago, at the first edition of the Polish Film Festival (now Gdynia Film Festival) the film was awarded the Grand Prize of Jury - ‘Gdynia Lion’. The film was seen by approx. 27 million viewers.

‘The Deluge’ - Trivia

The film crew o ‘The Deluge’ spend 535 days on the set. 70 actors were cast in leading roles, 450 actors had supporting and episodic roles and a several thousand extras – there were scenes, which were shot with 4 thousand people participating. The shooting days were attended by over 700 horses. Especially for the cast, approx. 5 thousand costumes, for men and women, were sewn accordingly to the fashion of the seventieth century. 45 Thousand military props were prepared (mainly sabers and swords, but also 1.5 thousand muskets). Dozens of artillery pieces were molded, including 30 cannons and 2 culverins – the main culverin weighed 1600 kg and was 10 m. tall.

In 2010, as part of the National Film Archive’s Digital Repository project and thanks to the funding of the Polish Film Institute and the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with TVN S.A, both parts of film ‘The Deluge’ (1972) by Jerzy Hoffman were digitized. Lasting 5 hours and 15 minutes (part 1. -169 min, and part 2. – 146 min) the film was subjected to complete preservation. The comprehensive digital reconstruction was performed by Magyar Filmlabor from Budapest and a production studio Orka in Warsaw. The film was re-edited under the artistic supervision of Jerzy Hoffman and Jerzy Wójcik. With the support of the director, version of the film with more dynamic narration was created. The re-editing was done by the renowned film editor – Marcin Kot Bastkowski.
